Antique Hummingbird Vase
A beautifully detailed antique Satsuma vase by Kinkozan Sobei VII, handcrafted in Kyoto, Japan, circa 1900. Set against a rich yellow-orange ground, the vase is exquisitely decorated with birds in flight, flowering chrysanthemums, intricate scrolling borders, and delicate hand-applied gilt accents. The finely painted motifs and luminous palette exemplify the exceptional craftsmanship that made the Kinkozan workshop internationally renowned during the Meiji period.
Kinkozan Sobei VII (1868–1927) continued his family's celebrated Awata pottery tradition, earning international recognition for technical innovation and artistic excellence. His workshop became known for blending traditional Japanese artistry with emerging Art Nouveau influences, producing some of the era's most sought-after ceramics.
